Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from you, how that information is used, who it may be shared with, and the measures we take to keep it safe. By using our Services, you agree to the practices set out in this Policy.

About Us

At Getzar, we take your privacy seriously. To keep your personal information safe, we have put safeguards in place to ensure that anything we collect from you is handled in line with POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act).  This statement outlines the kinds of information Getzar may hold about you as our customer, and describes how we collect, use, and safeguard it.

This policy covers only the personal information that we ourselves collect and hold. We may update this policy from time to time, and if we do, the revised version will be published on this website.

Why We Get in Touch

Together with our network of lenders and credit brokers, we will keep you updated on the progress of your loan application. Unless you tell us not to, we may reach you by phone, text message, mail, email, or automated message.

Legal Grounds for Processing Your Data

Consent

By checking the dedicated consent box on our registration form, you provide your explicit, informed, and voluntary consent for Getzar to collect your personal information and securely transmit it via API to our network of third-party lenders and licensed credit brokers. This transfer is conducted solely for the purpose of assessing your loan application and providing you with tailored financial offers.

Contract

Once you submit your personal details as part of a loan application, we process that data so that we can fulfil our obligation to provide you with a loan quote. Getzar and our partner lenders/brokers will then reach out with details about your quote.

Legitimate Interest

We have a legitimate interest in processing your data in order to pass your application on to our partner lenders and/or credit brokers so that a quote can be generated for you.

How We Get in Touch

We may contact you by phone, SMS, mail, email, and/or automated message to share information, application updates, and notices from companies associated with us, unless you have asked us not to. We may also receive personal information from third parties that helps us present relevant products to potential customers who have shown interest. Any data we receive from third parties is checked for accuracy, and we may periodically reach out to confirm that your details are correct.

Push Notifications

With your permission, we may send push notifications to your phone or browser. These may contain marketing content from us or from third parties. You can adjust or turn off push notifications at any time through your device or browser settings.

Keeping Your Information Up to Date

It’s your responsibility to make sure the personal information we hold about you is accurate and current. If anything needs to be updated or corrected, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

How We Collect Your Information

You’re welcome to browse our website freely, and you’re under no obligation to share any personal information with us. (See our Cookies Policy for more detail.)

To arrange a loan offer, we typically ask for:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Residential status
  • Date of birth
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Income
  • Bank account details
  • IP address
  • Website activity data (used to understand which parts of the site are used most and least — see our Cookies Policy for details)

If you have a question about our services or write to us at info@getzar.co.za we may collect some of the information above in order to respond effectively.

What We Collect and Why

When you apply for a loan online, we gather your personal information to generate quotes on your behalf. As you use our website, we may also track how you interact with it — pages viewed, the site that referred you to us, any changes made to your submitted information, details of quote requests, application content, and financial details such as bank account or employer information.

Collecting your personal information is necessary for us to provide a suitable loan quote. When you request a quote, you’re giving explicit consent for that data to be processed by us and by third parties such as lenders and credit brokers.

We store the details you provide, which may be used to pre-fill fields on our site to make future visits easier.

We won’t hold onto your information longer than the law allows, and we review retained data periodically to make sure of this.

Data Security

Protecting your data matters greatly to us. No method of transmitting data over the internet is completely secure, and while we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us, we cannot guarantee its security — any information you provide is at your own risk. By using our website, you accept the inherent risks of sharing personal data online and agree not to hold us liable in the event of a security breach.

How We Use Your Information

We may use your personal information to:

  • Let you access and use our Services;
  • Improve and tailor aspects of our Services;
  • Conduct market research;
  • Contact you, which may include:
    • Sharing details about additional products or services that might interest you — new launches, alternative financial options, newsletters, or invitations to take part in market research;
    • Sending you loan quotes. We may share your details with our partner lenders and brokers so they can prepare personalized quotes, which may involve soft credit checks;
    • Sending a confirmation email once you submit an application, so you have a record of it;
    • Processing an application between you and a third party;
    • Tracking sales, which may involve sharing your data with the provider of the product you purchased;
    • Cross-checking our records against data from other sources to keep the information we hold accurate and consistent;
    • Sending customer feedback surveys once an application is complete;

By checking the consent box on our registration form, you provide your explicit and informed consent to the processing and transfer of your personal information as described in this Agreement

Who We Share Your Information With

By submitting a loan application, you consent to your personal information being shared with:

  •  Getzar.co.za — to contact you about relevant products and services, to streamline form-filling or otherwise improve your experience on our site or apps, and as described in this Privacy Policy;
  • Lenders and credit brokers.

Where the law permits, we may also be required to access or disclose information about you (including identifiers like IP addresses) if:

  • Required or allowed by law;
  • Requested by a court or another regulatory, compliance, government, or law enforcement body;
  • Needed in connection with actual or anticipated legal proceedings; and/or
  • Relevant to the sale or possible sale of all or part of our business.

Third Parties and Your Information

Some lenders on our panel may use your personal information — including details of any third parties named in your application — to assess your circumstances and confirm the accuracy of what you’ve provided before issuing a quote. This can involve checks with fraud-prevention agencies and credit reference bureaus, covering both private and public records. Providers may also compare your details against data they already hold, such as records from existing financial products or past transactions, to help determine your loan amount, and in some cases may check education-related sources. Where these checks are carried out, your credit file may show a record of the search.

These checks help verify the information you’ve submitted and detect potentially fraudulent applications — a standard part of obtaining loan quotes generally.

If you go ahead with a loan, the information you’ve given us — plus anything further you share directly with the provider — will be handled according to that provider’s own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing a provider’s privacy policy before entering into any agreement with them, as we aren’t responsible for how they handle your data.

Your Rights

Under the Data Privacy Act, you have several rights, including:

  • Right to be informed — Getzar gives all customers this policy to explain clearly how personal data is collected, controlled, and processed.
  • Right of access — You can request copies of the personal data we hold about you, which we will normally provide within 30 days at no charge. Any extension will depend on the nature of the request and will require senior management approval — see the contact details below.
  • Right to rectification — If we’re holding inaccurate information, let us know the correct details and we’ll update our records within 72 hours, confirming once done (subject to identity verification).
  • Right to restrict processing — Processing may be paused while you dispute the accuracy of data, challenge our legal basis for processing, or need us to retain data to support a legal claim.
  • Right to object — You can object to our processing of your data on the grounds that it infringes your rights and freedoms. Objections related to direct marketing will be actioned within 48 hours; other objections will be treated as complaints and reviewed against our documented legal basis.
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — Where consent is the sole or partial basis for processing, we will act on erasure requests, typically within 72 hours, though data needed for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business reasons may be kept per our retention schedules. We’ll always confirm and discuss such requests with you first.
  • Right to data portability — You can ask to receive the data you’ve given us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, and to have it transferred to another provider, generally within 72 hours unless the request is unreasonably burdensome.
  • Rights around automated decision-making and profiling — You can object to purely automated decisions, share your perspective, request human review, and ask for an explanation of any decision along with the option to challenge it.

 Getzar has put policies and procedures in place to support these rights, and where a request can’t be fulfilled for a specific reason, we’ll explain why.

To exercise any of these rights, please write to us using the contact details below. Note that we’ll need to confirm your identity first.

How Long We Keep Your Data

Retention periods depend on why the data was collected:

  • If you opt out of marketing communications, we’ll still keep a record of your preference.
  • Data related to applications submitted through our site is kept for a minimum of six years after our relationship with you ends, to help address any complaints that may arise later.

Unsubscribing

You can stop receiving communications from Getzar at any time. Every marketing message we send includes an opt-out or unsubscribe link, and we ask for up to 48 hours to process such requests.

Requesting Deletion of Your Data

If you’d like to exercise your right to be forgotten and have your personal information deleted, please email info@getzar.co.za. We will also notify our marketing partners of your request.

Mergers and Sales

 Getzar reserves the right to transfer or assign user information it has collected as part of a corporate transaction — such as a merger, divestiture, consolidation, or asset sale — or in the unlikely event of bankruptcy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know — for example, through a notice on our site or by email — so you can decide whether to keep using our Services. Material changes take effect 30 calendar days after we first notify you, or once you accept the updated terms, whichever comes first. Minor changes take effect as soon as the updated policy is posted. We encourage you to check this page periodically. Any disputes will be handled under the version of this policy in effect at the time the dispute arose.

Complaints

We aim to keep our service to you at a high standard. If you’d like to raise a formal complaint, please email info@getzar.co.za
